Maxime Jean Lefebvre:
The Dazzling Ghost of the Sinking Cutter - Act I: A Scuttling Feeling
OPENING RECEPTION
Saturday, September 27, 2025
4-6 pm
Artist Statement:
The Dazzling Ghost of the Sinking Cutter is a visual tragicomedy in three acts, each exploring a different facet of the unraveling of a queer relationship. Act I, A Scuttling Feeling, will consist of mosaic works.
The project reflects on my relationship with foreignness and the strategies I’ve unsuccessfully used to protect myself from both perceived and actual threats. It responds to the impulse to seek refuge in institutional power as a way to counter new-found vulnerability. It also speaks to broader concerns about the viability of craft, its ongoing deterioration and the use of antiquated techniques as a mode of storytelling.
