Jessica Deane Rosner:
Honestly.

OPENING RECEPTION
Saturday, September 27, 2025
4-6 pm

Artist Statement:
I started writing on cloth in 2012. I wanted to use words in my art in a different way. I also wanted to create something a little less formal than a drawing. I started to buy and collect doilies and handkerchiefs I found in junk shops and yard sales.

For the most part I write excerpts from my personal diaries, but I use words my mother said and wrote when she was suffering the effects of dementia.

I find stitching to be more social than drawing. I can stitch when I sit with my husband, and take work on an airplane or train when I travel. Though it seems an old fashioned activity, the words I write with thread are a little edgy. I like the tension between what appears to be sweet and traditional, and the  feelings behind the text tell a contemporary and often less benign story.
